Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains what information the HTB Trivia Discord bot ("the Bot") collects when it is added to a Discord server, and how that information is used.

1. Information We Collect

When you participate in a trivia session in a server where the Bot is active, we collect:

• Your Discord user ID and display name, if you answer a question correctly.
• The number of points you have earned during the current trivia session.
• Which question numbers have already been answered in a session (to prevent repeats).

The Bot reads messages sent in the configured trivia channel in order to check whether they match the answer to the currently active question. Message content is checked in memory only and is not logged or stored — we only record the fact that a specific user answered correctly, along with their display name and updated point total.

We do not collect message content from channels or servers where no trivia question is currently active, and we do not collect presence, voice, or server-member data.

2. How We Use Information

• To track correct answers and award points during a trivia session.
• To display a live leaderboard of session participants, either in Discord or on an associated public web page.
• To prevent the same question from being answered more than once per session.

We do not use your information for advertising, profiling, or any purpose unrelated to running the trivia game.

3. Data Retention

Leaderboard entries and answered-question records are tied to a single trivia session. When an administrator ends a trivia session, this data is deleted from our database. We do not retain historical leaderboards or per-user answer history once a session has ended.

4. Data Storage & Sharing

Data is stored in a private database operated by us and is not sold, rented, or shared with third parties. We do not use any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking services in connection with the Bot.

5. Discord

The Bot operates on top of Discord and is subject to Discord's own Privacy Policy and Terms of Service. We have no control over, and are not responsible for, Discord's handling of your data.

6. Children's Privacy

The Bot is intended for use in accordance with Discord's own age requirements. We do not knowingly collect data from users who do not meet Discord's minimum age requirement.

7. Your Rights

You may ask us to tell you what data we hold about you, or to delete it, by contacting us using the details below. Because session data is deleted automatically at the end of each trivia session, in most cases there will be little or nothing to delete outside of an active session.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date.
